Cancún, Quintana Roo, August 23, 2024.- Cancún FC repeats at home, at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, only now against a historic Mexican soccer team: 'La Jaiba Brava' from Tampico Madero.

Their fifth matchday commitment (third as host, second in a row) represents for those led by professor Luis Arce the possibility of reaching the lead in the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.

So far, they are in third place with seven points, three less than the Jalisco teams Tapatío and Universidad de Guadalajara, both with ten. As if that were not enough, they are the best defensive team, with no goals conceded, in exchange for four in favor in three games.

"We will face a great team with very good players, but we are prepared to make the most of our home advantage," said midfielder Alan Rodriguez.

The 28-year-old from Guadalajara, former member of the Diablos Rojos del Toluca, accepts that 'the fans have already become accustomed to seeing a winning team, so we are very clear about that, to continue on the same path.'

The Iguanas tied against Mineros de Zacatecas in an intense battle that kept the score unchanged until the end.

Part of their success at the start of this campaign is precisely their defensive order, since Hedgardo Marín and Benjamín Galindo Jr. have become a real wall for their rivals.

The Cancun team has not conceded a goal since the first leg of the Campeón de Campeones Final on Wednesday, May 15, precisely at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo', when they split the honors (1-1) against Atlante.

They then nullified the Potros in the decisive game at the Ciudad de los Deportes, to the point of defining the series in the penalty shootout, after a goalless draw in regulation time and overtime. Already in the current Apertura 2024, they have recorded three matches with their immaculate framework.

The history of Cancún FC began precisely with a game against the Tamaulipas team, on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo'. On that occasion, Miguel Basulto converted a penalty that would mean the first victory for the Caribbean team.

A semester later, on Thursday, February 4, on the occasion of the fourth day of the Clausura 2021, the northerners tied (1-1) at the 'Tamaulipas' stadium, with a maximum penalty, curiously, but in charge of Giovani Hernández. Armando 'Teacher' Zamorano had
ahead of those then led by Christian 'Chaco' Giménez.

'The Crab'
does not win

In its return to the Expansion League, Tampico Madero, a historic team in Aztec soccer, has not been able to win in four games (1-1 against Atlético Morelia and 0-0 against Venados and Correcaminos), in addition to a stumble (2-0 against Tapatío), in Guadalajara.

The so-called 'Jaiba Brava' was the first champion in this category, in the Apertura 2020, thanks to its victory (2-3, aggregate 3-4) against Atlante in the second leg of the Final, on Sunday, December 20, at the Ciudad de los Deportes. Before, in northern territory, they tied (1-1).

Afterwards, they would clash against Tepatitlán, champion of the 2021 Clausura, for the title of Campeón de Campeños. The Alteños would achieve their objective in a penalty shootout (5-4), after a draw (2-2) during regulation time.

The defeat they suffered in Jalisco forced the Tamaulipas team to seek revenge in the Apertura 2021. Unfortunately for the squad led by the current technical director, Gerardo Espinoza, on Saturday, December 18, they fell (3-0) in the return leg and with the same aggregate score against the Potros, whom they had defeated a year earlier in the same Ciudad de los Deportes.

Already in the Premier League (Serie A), they would be proclaimed two-time champions with their current coach, Gastón Obledo.
