The Iguanas beat (1-0) the Itsmeños with a penalty goal by José Rodríguez at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on the third day of the 2025 Clausura Tournament of the MX Expansion League

Cancún, Quintana Roo, January 25, 2025.- Cancún FC maintains the perfect pace at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, thanks to its victory (1-0) against Alebrijes de Oaxaca, in the third day of the 2025 Clausura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.

The Itsmeños, well organized in the defensive sector, complicated things for the Iguanas, until the Colombian, José Rodríguez, at 65', led his team to its second victory at home.

Seven minutes in, Rodríguez himself shot from just a few metres away from José Fernández's goal, who managed to deflect it off the line with his leg.

Alebrijes came close to opening the scoring in the 18th minute, when Christopher Suárez shot and hit the left post.

Already in the second half, at 60', Adán Zaragoza triangled with José Rodríguez and Sergio de los Ríos, the latter with a shot to the near post, right where the goalkeeper, Fernández, was positioned.

Finally, at 65', Cancún FC got their reward through a penalty, executed masterfully by José Rodríguez.

Cancún FC had the second at 78' with a low shot from the same Colombian, just wide of the base of the right post.

The match ended dramatically with a double save by Gustavo Gutiérrez, when Alebrijes almost tied the game.

The victory means that the Caribbeans have access to seven points. For their part, the Oaxacans have stagnated with just one.

On the fourth date, Cancún FC will face the first of two consecutive road matches, when they visit Mineros de Zacatecas, on Saturday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m., Quintana Roo time.
