CANCUN FC BEATS CIMARRONES DE SONORA AND STALKS THE LEADERSHIP

The Iguanas beat the northerners (5-2) at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on the tenth day of the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League

Cancún, Quintana Roo September 19, 2023.- Cancún FC is in the fight for the leadership of the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League!

A great game by the Iguanas, explosive on offense against a challenger, Cimarrones de Sonora, who fought, but could not counteract the attacks of their rival at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium. The score (5-2) reflected Cancun's dominance.

Cancún FC opened the scoring at 13', in a breakaway by the Colombian, José Rodríguez, who shot across the goalkeeper's left post, Gabino Espinoza.

The goal allowed the Iguanas to control the game, constantly putting pressure on the northerners.

At 31', the Sonorans created their first big dangerous play, with a shot from Harold Vázquez. Then, in the 34th minute, Jesús López almost converted the tie for Cimarrones with a powerful shot slightly deflected from Edson Reséndez's goal.

A shot from outside the large area by the Colombian, José Rodríguez, was nowhere near the second for his team.

The duel was experiencing its best moments. Cimarrones did not give up, until at 46', Jesús López scored 1-1.

The equalizer fell like a bucket of cold water. Fortunately, Cancún FC regained the advantage with an own goal, curiously by López himself, who had previously tied the battle.

The complement began and the Caribbean caused a maximum penalty. The whistler, Axel Meza, did not judge the action as a foul against José Rodríguez.

The cry of 'Cancún, Cancún!' In the stands he encouraged the Iguanas and at 53', Raúl Castillo made it 3-1.

But, Cimarrones did not consider themselves dead and immediately, José Alfredo Peralta brought the visitors closer (3-2), at 57', with a low shot, with a cross shot from the right wing, which beat Edson Reséndez at the far post.

It was an exciting game. The home team orchestrated a new offensive, now in the 60th minute, with a cross from the left by Cheik Traore in the heart of the area that Alfonso Tamay tried to finish with his head. The ball fell right to Johan Alonzo, who did not hesitate to kick a shot into the right corner. Cancún FC already won 4-2!

Almost later, Alan Arreola appeared, after a good play by the Colombian, Rodríguez, on the left, only for the number '20' to push the ball. In this way, he put definitive figures.

At 83', José Daniel González, Pioneros Cancún FC player, made his debut in the Expansion League, replacing Edson García.

Their fourth victory at home and fifth of the contest allows those led by the teacher, Luis Arce, to add 16 points, positioned in the general sub-leadership.

On the eleventh day, Cancún FC will visit Toros del Atlético Celaya, on Wednesday, September 27 at 10:05 p.m.
