CANCUN FC TIES AGAINST ALTEÑOS IN THEIR VISIT TO TEPATITLÁN

The Iguanas pass (1-1) the customs of the 'Gregorio 'Tepa' Gómez, thanks to a goal by Sergio de los Ríos at 81', in the second day of the 2025 Clausura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX

Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, January 17, 2025.- Cancún FC came out unscathed (1-1) from the 'Gregorio 'Tepa' Gómez stadium against the Alteños de Tepatitlán, thanks to a goal by Sergio de los Ríos in the 81st minute in the second day of the 2025 Clausura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.

It is the first draw for the Iguanas in the Altos de Jalisco, since in the four previous occasions, they won twice (0-1 in the Apertura 2020 and 1-2 in the Apertura 2021) in exchange for a couple of setbacks (1-0 in the Clausura 2023 and 3-0 in the Apertura of the same year).

In their second consecutive game as host, after the draw against Venados, the Alteños presented three former Cancún FC players: Zahid Muñoz, the Caribbean, Alfonso Tamay and in the throes of the duel, Luis Loroña.

At 22', Tepa created the first dangerous chance. Amaury Escoto sent a cross from the right to the other side, where Zahid Muñoz appeared with a header, forcing the goalkeeper, Gustavo Gutiérrez, to deflect spectacularly with one hand. The Iguanas were saved!

Three minutes later, Axl Padilla escaped down the left and crossed into the heart of the area, however, José Rodríguez was unable to connect with the ball correctly a few meters from the Guadalajara goal.

It was not until the 39th minute that the hosts opened the scoring, through the captain, Amaury Escoto, who in the area simply pushed the ball to leave Gustavo Gutiérrez with no chance.

Following the goal, Tepa created important opportunities on offense, to the point that he came close to scoring the second before halftime.

The home team gave up the initiative, which the Iguanas took advantage of to constantly attack Ricardo Díaz's goal, but without reflecting it on the scoreboard.

In the 68th minute, Mauro Guadarrama missed what would have meant the tie at that moment, when he was in front of Díaz's goal, but he did not connect with the ball correctly.

In the 69th minute, the teacher, Luis Arce, brought Sergio de los Ríos on to replace Alan Rodríguez. The change would eventually take effect.

The Alteños almost surprised the Cancun team when Juan Machado threatened with a dangerous chance in the small area, but Benjamin Galindo stopped him.

At 81', Sergio de los Ríos, unmarked, scored the equalizer with a shot close to the base of the left post of goalkeeper Díaz.

The game was coming to an end and Johan Alonzo almost became the hero with a goal from the legend, after a bad exit by the goalkeeper, Ricardo Díaz.
First, he recovered the ball on the wing, when it seemed that the play was lost. Then, he tried to shoot at the left post and almost scored the second for his team.

The draw allows the Cancun team to add four points. For its part, 'Tepa' has two. In addition, it has not won at home since September of last year.

On the third day, Cancún FC will return home, to the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, to host the Alebrijes de Oaxaca, on Saturday, January 25.
